About Us

Flint Neighborhood Development and Enrichment, Inc. (FNDE) is a Non-Profit organization established by Stephen Mayfield and Lonnie Mayfield. The Mayfield brothers are Flint’s own native sons, dedicated to the creation and launch of a thriving non-profit organization focused on vocational programming, life skills, and mentorship for community members, Flint city youth ages 6-21 years old including youth with special needs. FNDE will provide career and technical education programs, which include personal and professional development, that will cultivate career opportunities that nurture growth and empowerment. Our industry professionals with years of real-world, on-the-job experience will prepare students enrolled in our program with entry-level employment skills including some program certifications. Our programs serve Flint City students who are interested in learning how to thrive through the utilization of life and career skills. Individuals with special needs and disabilities are encouraged to enroll. Students can find future career skills with the specialized vocational training program at FNDE.

We are a group of business professional with decades of vocational experiences. We are collectively dedicated to giving back to youth, families and communities in need.

Stephen Mayfield, Ed. S

Mr. Mayfield has been named Chief Executive Officer  for FNDE. Stephen has over 35
years experience in public service as a Police Officer for the City of Flint and the University of Michigan. Additionally, he has over 13 years
of employment service as a Public Safety Instructor for Genesee Intermediate School District. Stephen’s drive for excellence prompted him to continue his education. He has a Degree as an Educational Specialist with a concentration in School Administration, a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice, and a second Master’s degree in Organizational Management. Stephen encourages his students and mentees to always strive for personal growth and professional development.

 

Additionally, Stephen diligently supports the Flint community by teaching and volunteering as a coach and mentor for Flint city youth. Recently awarded the 2022 Governor’s Service Award 2022, Stephen received the Youth Service Impact Award for excellence in volunteerism. Additionally, Stephen continues his commitment to partnering with organizations focused on community improvement through Flint City youth programs and services.

       Lonnie Mayfield

Mr. Mayfield has been named Chief Operations Officer for FNDE. Lonnie has over 30 years experience in operations management, facilities management, and vocational programming including extensive expertise in multi-million-
dollar Project Management oversight. Lonnie brings his vision, zeal, and proven vocational proficiency back to his beloved hometown of Flint, Michigan. Lonnie has served as a mentor, coach, and trainer for California students where he lived and raised his family. Lonnie has been an advocate, mentor, and trainer for previously incarcerated adults selected for a re-entry vocational program created and designed
by Lonnie which has been utilized throughout Los Angeles County.

Lonnie has been nominated for various awards for his volunteer service in Santa Clarita, California including receiving recognition from the William S. Hart Union High School District for providing support and donations through his consulting firm, Mayfield Consulting, and Associates.

Additionally, Lonnie was a nominee for Volunteer of the Year for the City of Santa Clarita, California for his many years of coaching basketball and soccer. Lonnie served diligently for 2 years as Treasurer of the Bel Air Community Council. Lonnie is a U.S. Navy Veteran and has held various organizational executive leadership roles such as Director of Facilities and Regional Director of Facilities for well-known organizations such as Aetna, Union Rescue Mission, Stephen S. Wise Temple, and Century Villages at Cabrillo. Lonnie is excited to return home to fulfill his dream of providing programming, mentorship resources, and services for Flint’s City Youth.

  LaVetta Mayfield, MSLM

Mrs. Mayfield has been named Chief Program Administration Officer for FNDE. LaVetta has over 25 years of experience in Business Management and Human Resources. LaVetta has held various positions in many fields of Business including, Owner of a successful licensed large home daycare for over 7 years, along with expertise in Operations Management, Senior HR Consultanting, Senior HR Specialist, HR Business Partner, and HR- Client Services Manager, for such esteemed
organizations such as Thrifty, Sport Chalet, NLA County Regional Center, Domestic Violence Center of Santa Clarita Valley, William S. Hart Union High School District, Learn4Life, Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital, and Rescue Mission Alliance.

LaVetta is dedicated to youth engagement which allows the transfer of technical and
soft skills. She enjoys volunteering and working with students to help them build sustainable skills. LaVetta provides professional training in resume creation, interviewing skills, communications, and conflict resolution with peers, parents, and adults. LaVetta’s love for learning encouraged her to return
to school to better equip herself in Human Resources which aligns with her passion for people. LaVetta received her Master of Science Degree with a concentration in Human Resources. LaVetta continues to use her skills and expertise to teach youth in areas of mentorship, skills, and knowledge which helps to elevate their communities.

Joseph Haywood

Our Director of Vocational Training. Joseph
is a U.S. Navy Veteran with over 40 years of prestigious experience in facility maintenance, and janitorial services with certifications as an electrician and plumber. Joseph received his
Associate of Arts Degree in Business Law with specified certifications in electrical technology, computer technology, hydraulics, and HVAC.
As an Instructor at Coastline Community College for 5 years, Joseph is an expert teacher in the fields of hydraulics and electrical technology.

Joseph created a maintenance training curriculum and workshop for newly hired employees at his current employer. He is an avid mentor for veterans transitioning out of military service. Joseph enjoys volunteering and serving current veterans in need, and offers keen advice, additional training and
support to mentees who show interest in learning more about careers in facility maintenance and janitorial service.
